I have started this New Year with hopeful expectations. I plan on continuing my series Moonbeam and
Friends with four books, the next to come out will be in March, but I have some other projects
I want to dive into. Traditionally, most
people have found old-school publishers and/or lit agents hard to crack. It does happen of course, but you have to dot
your i’s and cross your t’s to have a shot at most. With the print-on-demand format, many people
have been able to dream big and reach out to the general public independently,
but marketing can still be a tough practice to engage in by oneself. You can pay for it, but if you are doing print-on-demand, you are most likely trying to do it on your own. I know I am.
It takes a lot of money to reach the masses through marketing, and still,
it's never a sure thing. I am
researching different ways and methods to reach my goals because due to the drawback of money, I have to do it through the trial and
error of self-practice.
There are many ways, I want to do so, such as through blogs, podcasts,
YouTube, social media, and emailing lists.
I am familiar with the uphill battles of the journey I chose to pursue. It still feels daunting. But as they say, I don’t plan on putting my eggs all in one basket. I want to branch into traditional
publishing as well. I am working on the
illustrations for a book I plan to put in these directions. So, I guess you could say I am looking into
working with a hyped model, of both being an indie author as well as a hopeful more traditional one.
As this year continues, I plan on working on a middle-grade novel in addition to my other books. I
am not sure of the direction of this one yet, I only have a character list and
a story outline as of now. I may go with a
more eBook format or both. This is still
very vague and like my husband likes to say, “a fart in the wind”. I think my middle-grade novels are going to
be very much on the silly side. I have
always loved funny quirky stories and being a smile or a giggle to a kiddo's face would be a gift.
As with anything, I am hoping for some success this year. I hope to learn my way around the different
social media platforms, and my own awkwardness to build illustrations and stories
that parents, kiddos, and anyone can enjoy!
Ciao for now!
